The Holmes County 4-H Program through the University of Florida IFAS Extension held its first 4-H Air Rifle Club Meeting on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Holmes County Ag Center.
Members held a brief club meeting to choose a name for the club and held officer elections. The members’ final vote was to select “Hammer Down 4-H Air Rifle Club” as their official club name. Once the business portion of the club meeting was adjourned, members were then led to the air rifle range by 4-H volunteers and certified air rifle instructions, Duane Crawson & John Ernst. Members were were given safety equipment, safety instructions, taught how to know their eye dominance, an overview of the basic air rifle parts and step-by-step instructions on handling the air rifle. After thorough instructions, members were placed into pairs for peer coaching to support the 4-H methodology of “learn by doing”.
